Veteran Journalist Judith Makwanya Died

The famous veteran journalist Judith Makwanya died. She was 56. It is a sad loss that Zimbabwe has lost a great media personal who served her country for so long.

Reports revealed that she was admitted on a particular private hospital on Monday with a medical emergency. 

The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting confirmed Makwanya’s death but did not give details. Writing on Twitter, the Information Ministry said:

Government learns with sadness of the untimely passing on of Diplomatic Correspondent Ms Judith Makwanya. Judith served her country with distinction and was one of the journalists placed on the sanctions list which became a Roll of Honour for Patriots. May Her Soul Rest in Peace. 

Many fellow mediapractitioners are passing condolences to the media icon.

Mduduzi Mathuthu, the former editor of The Chronicle and the founder of Zimlive.com wrote

Judith Makwanya was actually very nice, and kind. Unfortunately, in our polarised political existence, every human relationship is looked at from a political perspective. So sorry to learn of her death, my heart goes out to her grieving family and colleagues. R.I.P my sister.

Zenzele Ndebele of the Centre for Technology and Innovation said on Twitter:

Sad to hear about the passing on of Judith Makwanya. She was someone who was very open-minded and friendly.

Former Minister for Information and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo had this to say:

Tragic news about Judith Makwanya. She was a committed media practitioner and an inspiring voice who challenged crude gender barriers in Zimbabwe’s fledgeling broadcasting industry.

It is a sad loss. May your soul Rest in Peace Judith Makwanya
