It was a pleasant day to the Chipawo Theatre Company and other groups as well as individuals as they were commemorating the World Theatre Day.
Today Chipawo Theatre Company commemorates the World Theatre Day under the theme "Take a child to the Theatre so that they can See, Hear, Feel, Think and Imagine" and a sub theme titled "Take a parent to the Theatre". The event took place in Mt Pleasant at Chipawo Premises in Harare. The theme was set internationally with the aim of inspiring young people about theatre, mapping way forward on how to develop Zimbabwean theatre as well as creating "the Theatre" in all parts of the country.
Chipawo was formed in 1984 with the aim of supporting the local talent within Zimbabweans. It was formed by core founders like Dr Robert who is now the CEO of Dr Robert school of acting and this commemoration is an annual event which celebrated on the 20th of this month by ASSITEJ group of amateur theatre of which Chipawo is part of it.
There was a lot of entertainment from the Chipawo Theatre Company dance group and some individuals. Many groups and individuals from various organizations came to commemorate the day together with Chipawo Theatre Company. These include New Generation Youth Club, University of Zimbabwe, Monte Rosa College, Gold Class Academy, Blingworks theatre group, former members of Chipawo and some individuals like BaShupi.
The event addressed some of the reasons why the Zimbabwean theatre is not growing and what needs to be done to make the theatre to be at people's heart. In a statement, Dr Robert the core founder of Chipawo said that "there is much to be done so as to make the Theatre as a better place to be especially for young people." He also said that "Parents should support their children when they are doing theatre so that there will be able to deliver the best and the children in theatre must believe in their selves so that their dreams can come true.
In deed it was a great day which will always be remembered by many.
