Hopely in fight for better health facilities

It was a great day for the Residents of Hopely and surrounding areas as Restless Development yesterday in Hopely hosted an a Youth Gala which gathered various organizations which focuses on sexual reproductive health and rights issues such as Family Support Trust,  Chiedza Care Trust, Zichire, National Aids Council Young People's Network and One Africa Trust.

These organizations offered various services which includes free information dissemination about sexual reproductive health rights, family planning and projects planning. Other organizations such as One Africa Trust took the opportunity to show case their products which they are producing in their projects such as soaps, toilet cleaner, dish wash among others.

However, this has not been enough to the residents of Hopely since the event was for a single day yet they are crying for better health services day and night. If the truth is to be told, Hopely is at craving for better health facilities. This community is depending on one council clinic for affordable health services and private clinics which are becoming unaffordable to access health services as compared to the government or council clinics for example HIV testing is costing a dollar or more yet in council clinics it's for free.

Despite the construction of the another council clinic which is underway, the residents of Hopely of needs health facilities which are reliable and affordable so that they can have access to health services on regular basis rather than depending on one council clinic of which it is small to cater for everyone in Hopely especially during the times of outbreak diseases.

Some people travel long distance to reach the local council clinic which is affordable and some they depends on mobile clinics which usually come with time to access services like HIV testing and family planning. However, the problem remains the same since these mobile clinics do not last for a long period of time.

The residents of Hopely are living under fear of communicable diseases outbreaks such as cholera, typhoid and malaria because there is no proper sanitation and water regulation hence residents are ending up using contaminated water sources.

Indeed, the residents of Hopely are prone to communicable diseases due to lack of regular, reliable, affordable and nearby health facilities and services.
